Surakarta, (May 21, 2024) – Muhammad Ivan Rizki, a student in Agricultural Extension and Communication, has won First Place and a Gold Medal in both the Essay and Poster competitions at the Futuristic and Prestige Research, Technology, and Art (Faperta) Fair 5. The competition was organized by the Sentosa Foundation at Universitas Dhyana Pura Bali, held on May 18-19, 2024. Ivan’s project, titled “Rice Field Rat Repeller Using Solar-Powered Ultrasonic Waves (SIRKUS),” addresses the issue of rat infestations in rice fields, which negatively impact rice production. The SIRKUS tool utilizes sunlight to activate several components, including an ultrasonic speaker. This type of sound wave disrupts the hearing of rats in the rice fields, causing them to leave the area and thereby protecting rice productivity. Ivan’s idea emphasizes the need for more sustainable and cost-effective methods in this era of globalization. The SIRKUS tool contributes to supporting SDG 9 and is beneficial for enhancing food self-sufficiency in Indonesia. The Faperta Fair 5 left a positive impression on Ivan, as he had the opportunity to meet students from various regions of Indonesia. He acknowledged that there were many brilliant ideas among the finalists. This competition made him realize the many areas still needing development to achieve a progressive Indonesia.
